Donousa is under the jurisdiction of the Holy Metropolis of Theras, Amorgos and the Islands and more specifically the Archdiocese of Amorgos.
Church of Stavros (Holy Cross)
The Church of Stavros named for the resurrection of the Holy Cross, was constructed at the end of 1800 and gave its name to the village.
That first church fell to ruins with the passage of time and it was rebuilt in 1902 where it currently stands.
Try to be there for September 14th and experience the great festival held for the island’s patron saint.
Church of Panagia (Virgin Mary)
This small church is located on the top of a hill in the village of Stavros. It’s worthwhile visiting it because the view from its highpoint satisfies even the most demanding traveler.
Select afternoon visits to include the sunset.
Naturally on August 15th a large celebration takes place with locals and tourists mingling as one.
Church of Agios Υeorgios (St. George)
It is found on the northernmost coast of the island, in the hamlet of Kalotaritissa.
Church of Agia Sophia (St. Sophia)
It is found in Mersini.
You can go and sit down under the spring water’s plane tree.
On September 17th your presence is compulsory to celebrate the church’s name day.
